Title: Tech Talk #1 - Checking your MATLAB code against coding standards
Presenter: Robin Loose - Software Engineer/Consultant @ MonkeyProof Solutions
Short Description: Writing clean, consistent code may not seem very relevant and is therefore often overlooked. However, following coding standards can help you write MATLAB code that is easier to read for others and yourself, facilitating collaboration. It may also prevent you from using discouraged built-in MATLAB functions or constructs.
In this talk, we will go through some examples of coding standards and how they can be applied to your code. You will see how your code can be checked against your own coding standards automatically using the Code Checker for MATLAB, an interactive tool developed in MATLAB, for MATLAB. The coding standards that are checked by this tool can be found here: https://doc.monkeyproofsolutions.nl/doc/code-checker-for-matlab/monkeyproof-coding-standards/v0_6_0/introduction.html

Title: Optimize MATLAB code performance - Q-Bat case study.
Presenter: Michal Kurzynka – CTO @ QuickerSim
Short Description: In the case of MATLAB, there are some guidelines on how to minimize performance bottlenecks like 'minimize the use of for loops' or 'try to use vectorization'. Often these tips are not enough to achieve satisfactory performance. There are other things that developers should take under consideration, like JiT, data structures, and algorithms.
In this talk, I will show examples of code performance optimization basing on the Q-Bat, our software for reduced-order model battery packs thermal simulation.
Presenter Bio: Michal has over 4 years of experience in carrying out CFD simulations and simulation software design

Title: Using MATLAB with Python
Presenter: Yann Debray
Short Description: You’ve heard it before, MATLAB vs. Python (vs. R vs. ) but we’re going to talk about using MATLAB and Python together! Whether you are a student, work in academia, or industry, you have probably encountered situations where you need to integrate work from more than one language. This is common in engineering and scientific applications, especially when they involve multiple teams and software or hardware needs.
There’s a large community working on cool algorithms, teaching, and sharing examples in both languages – so why not take advantage of all this excellent work, independent of language preference!? For example, MATLAB and Python were used by my colleague Heather Gorr in building this air quality prediction app and this sentiment analysis algorithm. The two languages are often used together for AI applications (so frequently that there are direct importers and exporters for deep learning networks through MATLAB, ONNX and TensorFlow).
Tune in the join the bilingual conversation, whether you use MATLAB, Python or Both
Presenter Bio:
Yann Debray acts as MATLAB Product Manager, focusing on the usages of MATLAB with Python.
