Job description

Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it’s important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission? 🌎

Role
Let’s give you some context first! Currently, the engineering team is heads-down on the proof of concept of our newest architecture. Positively presuming that we’ll be able to proof our concept, the next stage in our roadmap is gradually working towards a commercially viable product. This will be done by developing different prototypes (which will go into the field to test in real-world conditions and to iterate from there on), all having a different technical readiness level (alpha, beta etc.).

Next to getting our technology to a level of commercial viability, we’ll start preparing the operational organization for scale too. While the operations team is currently relatively small, this team is making sure we’re making the right decisions today to make sure we’re able to deliver thousands of systems a year by 2030.

So, given this context, it’s like knocking an open door to say it’s a unique moment to join us as our very first quality professional. This comes with the great opportunity to proactively embed quality principles within the engineering and manufacturing process to – ultimately – make sure that our technology is being engineered qualitatively. You will not only be building the quality management system, you will apply it on to our supply partners to ensure supplier quality and our manufacturing partners.

These two illustrative examples are just the tip of the iceberg of what your role entails. Essentially, contrary to your job title, we’re looking for someone who has a pragmatic approach. Abbreviations like FMEA, PPAP, IMDS, ISO, RCA are very familiar to you. As a startup/scale-up, we require strong coverage in this domain without getting bogged down by excessive procedures. Your challenge: finding the perfect balance as Carbyon continues its growth path.

Responsibilities
While we did our outmost best to give you some insights on the context you’ll operate in, we’d also like to summarize your responsibilities a bit more sharply. Given the startup/scale-up environment you’ll be part of, it goes without saying that the overview below is a simplified summary.

Quality Process development and guidance

  • Guide the team in their effective application and continually evolve processes to align with our dynamic needs
  • Set up the quality management system, including the processes, that is the basis for all our quality efforts
  • Ensure supplier quality by providing standards and performing audits on supplier process and quality. Measure and monitor their quality performance
  • Execute and guide the process to release products at suppliers at the correct quality levels
  • Leading (human) safety risk inventory and FMEA sessions and follow up on the outcome
  • Lead the quality team when the need arises to grow this discipline
  • Support in the creation and refinement of our engineering processes including quality assurance tollgates by using models like the V-model

Standards expertise

  • Be the go-to expert on norms and standards, leading the process of obtaining  CE, UL, and other regulatory guidelines for our machines
  • Explore potential approvals through certified bodies like TUV or Dekra, ensuring our products meet the highest industry benchmarks

Procedural excellence

  • Support the creation (and following) of quality-related procedures and guidelines - from research best practices to laboratory protocols
  • Transform early-phase 'sand-box' research into streamlined 'business-as-usual' operations while safeguarding the quality of these processes

Quality evolution

  • Investigate and report on new standards and guidelines in the field of DAC such as CO₂ purity standards
  • Be at the forefront of setting quality standards at Carbyon. Grow with us, navigating the unique challenges of our industry where traditional medical/gas standards may be too strict for our innovative approach

Problem Solving and continuous improvement

  • Apply problem solving methodologies and facilitate Root-Cause-Analysis investigations
  • On longer term: implement a continuous improvement approach to identify opportunities for product or process improvements

Why join us?
We are a purpose-driven team of international engineers, researchers, and business professionals. We do not get easily discouraged and we join forces to ensure our dream comes true. At the heart of it all, people are inspired by our purpose: reversing climate change!

We offer you to:

  • Make a real difference in one of the biggest challenges of our time - reversing climate change
  • Become an integral part of our fun, diverse and growing multicultural team
  • Experience the dynamic and exciting environment of a startup - where there is never a dull moment
  • Take ownership and actively participate in the decision-making process
  • Share and implement your own ideas - we believe the best ideas can come from anywhere
  • Enjoy flexible working hours and the freedom to manage your work effectively - we trust you
  • Join the daily team walks at the inspiring High Tech Campus
  • Engage in monthly team events and activities such as jeu de boules or barbecues, fostering a strong sense of community
  • Receive a permanent contract and enjoy our recently improved attractive benefits package
You are driven by our purpose and you can balance the strictness of quality procedures with the pragmatism and flexibility that is required in a start-up. You take ownership of your discipline and take responsibility for your decisions. Your communication skills enable you to effortlessly connect with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • The ability to keep up with multiple projects side-by-side while maintaining a high-level overview of all aspects involved

  • Enthusiasm to embrace our startup's mission and values, energized to contribute to our innovative and impactful journey
  • Lives within commuting distance from Eindhoven or is open to relocating - because that’s where our magic happens
