NPI Assembly Engineer

We are seeking a NPI Assembly Engineer, senior level. As a NPI Assembly Engineer you will play a key role in developing new processes and products, with a strong focus on manufacturability throughout the development phases.

Role

As an NPI Assembly Engineer, you will play a key role in developing new processes and products, with a strong focus on manufacturability throughout the development phases. You will optimize processes to achieve high yields and low costs and ensure that all required documentation is in place for a smooth transfer to production. You will provide hands-on support to production until processes are fully released and the expected yields are achieved.
You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and work closely with cross-functional teams to bring new products successfully from development to production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify new assembly processes in close collaboration with R&D, with a focus on suitability for production
  • Evaluate results during development phases and propose improvements to processes and procedures
  • Lead supplier selection for new manufacturing tools and materials, including specification definition and alignment with Purchasing
  • Support and advise Product, Test, Q&R, and Assembly teams on process and product development experiments
  • Write assembly procedures, work instructions, and protocols, and ensure all required documentation and safety datasheets are in place for process release
  • After release, initiate and support process, equipment, and efficiency improvement projects to drive yield and productivity
  • Report risks, bottlenecks, and progress to the Project Leader and Engineering Manager within project timelines
  • Take the lead in defining and evaluating the best processes for new products in collaboration with R&D, and transfer these into the production line
  • Lead the transfer of processes to other manufacturing sites
  • Maximize effectiveness and efficiency of manufacturing processes, ensuring a consistent flow of quality work that meets customer requirements
  • Examine the need for and impact of specification changes
  • Continuously develop and increase the competence level of the engineering group

About you

You are a team player who is able to combine strong analytical skills with a result- and quality-driven mindset. You are entrepreneurial and ambitious and you know how to translate technical complexity into practical, workable solutions. Problem-solving comes naturally to you, and you are constantly looking for ways to improve.
You have extensive experience working in a dynamic high-tech manufacturing environment and possess a solid technical understanding of assembly processes. Your knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and statistical techniques allows you to drive efficiency and quality improvements with confidence.
You communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organisation, and you are proactive in identifying and addressing challenges before they become issues. You are familiar with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE/Arbo) requirements, and you are comfortable working with Shop Floor Control systems, statistical software, and standard office applications.

Qualifications

  • BsC/MsC degree in Chemistry, Physics or Mechanics and a strong interest in process engineering and high-tech manufacturing processes.
  • At minimum, ten years of previous work experience.
  • Experience with process characterization and a continuous improvement mindset are essential for this role
  • Broad technical experience.
